This essay is from my own private collection of essays and is not meant as a scholarly work of any kind. I just thought it would be nice for people to see the different types of modern vampires and their differing beliefs. I hope you enjoy!
Types of Vampires
Unconscious Traditional Psychic Vampires
Emotional Vampires- These people are usually seen as 'drama queens', problem starters and greedy, parasitic types. You may feel drained whenever they come around or they may give off a 'creepy' feeling (felt by the masses, not just one individual). These are the most dangerous types as they are not aware of what they are doing and at times take more than is needed, causing that drained and creepy feeling in others. These are the type of psychic vampires most occultists warn against, such as Dion Fortune, Aleister Crowley, Anton LaVey and Konstantinos.
Deficient Vampires (the most common types of Vampires)
Psi-Vamp/Psi-Vampire or Pranic Vampire (Prana is a Sanksrit demoting vital or life force energy)- Takes the energy from crowds or donors, also has better powers of perception and energy manipulation.
Psychic-Vampire/Psy-Vamp- Takes energy from crowds or donors, also has psychic abilites, such as telepathy and other forms of ESP.
Psi-Vamps and Psychic-Vampires are often seen as the same type of being, but they are different, even if only slightly, as one is master of the manipulation of energy and one is master of telepathic abilities. Some do have these traits in common.
(From a thread at sanguinarius.org, first and only place I found this information, but it makes sense)
Sanguinarian or Sanguin- Drinks human blood.
Hybrid- Psychic-Vampire/Psi-Vamp and Sanguin.
These types of vampires often feel they have weak or deficient energy centers or auras and need to 'feed' to sustain themselves mentally and physically. The Sanguins feel that if they do not have blood they will lack in health and mental stability, thus the reason they are called Deficient, but for the rest of the essay these vampires will be referred to as Traditional Psychic Vampires or Sanguin.
(There are so many Houses/Covens on and off line it is ridiculous to list all the website and orders, but here a few sites that may help- www.kherete.org, www.darknessembraced.com, www.atlantavampirealliance.com, http://sphynxcatvp.nocturna.org).
The Psychic Vampire Codex by Michelle Belanger is a very common and easily accesed book for Psychic Vampires (hence the name).
Power Vampires
Strigoi Vii or Living Vampyres- Feeds off of energy but not for the need, but for the evolution and immortality of the Self. They do not lack energy they simply use it to empower themselves. Strigoi Vii are ethical and only elitist to the point of being a unique culture of Vampyre, not predatory like the occult oriented Vampires (see below).
Strigoi Vii do not see their Vampyrism as an affliction but a gift, unlike many Traditional Psychic Vampires, that is why they are in a separate category, even though they also 'feed' off of the energy from crowds and donors. Strigoi Vii do not condone the feeding of real blood. They see blood, or more accurately 'Blood', as a metaphor for the power within the human species.
Strigoi Vii spell Vampyre with a y as to distinguish it from the beings of folklore and entertainment. Vampire will be used for the rest of the essay and not Vampyre, so as not to confuse the reader and Strigoi Vii will be used where appropriate.
(You can find out more at www.strigoivii.org or reading Vampyre Sanguinmonicon: Lexicon of the Living Vampyre by Father Sebastiaan).
Predatory Vampires
Temple of Set's Order of the Vampyre do not really consider themselves vampires, but use the archetype as an occult tool and symbol to gain power. They are similar to Strigoi Vii in method except they feel they are superior to others that are not vampires. The Order of the Vampyre views the Vampire Community as fakes, poseurs and immature children. They are a secret society.
The Order of the Black Dragon, a sister order of the Order of Phosphorus, seems indifferent to the Community, yet they feel as vampires they are superior beings who should proudly feed off the weak for power and evolution. They are Luciferians by trade.
Temple of the Vampire- The first major vampire group to come out in the open. They are protected by law as they are a religion, as they are (claim to be) the original and only True Vampires. Very elitist, and much like the Order of the Vampyre they view the Vampire Community as fakes, poseurs and immatures. They claim they are the only sect that can truly make you a vampire as they worship the Undead Gods, the first vampires, whom choose if you are worthy of the 'Blood'. They are Satanic in design and belief and are a secret society.
There is an ongiong debate as to whether vampires can be made or are just born. Most vampires in the Community believe you are born a vampire and nothing and no one else can turn you. Even if you are fed upon too deeply causing a lack or high deficiency in energy, you have a chance to correct the imbalance and regain your energetic strength, where as a Traditional Psychic Vampire cannot do that. There is no cure for real vampirism.
The True Vampire
The True Vampire is a rare breed, the rarest of the rare. They need blood and easily attract energy to themselves. They are different than Sanguins and Traditional Psychic Vampires in that they can control their blood lust and need for energy through more socially acceptable means of consumption, such as healthy diets and life styles, meditation, religion, etc. They are not exaclty human, they could be considered Otherkin, souls not of this world, whereas the rest of the Vampires are humans with needs or humans that seek Immortality and evolution of the Self. The rest of the vampires are seen as Vampire-Identified People, not really as vampires. The True Vampire often appears to others as being 'not of this world'. They are not usually associated with any groups or organizations.

According to the same website, and even from certain Traditional Psychic Vampires, Traditional Psychic Vampires are not really vampires at all, but healers and mediums (the website calls them Energy Mediums) with a higher vibration of energy. Unlike Traditional Psychic Vampires Energy Mediums (and Strigoi Vii, according to their scriptures) have bright, colorful, large and beautiful auras, unlike the Traditional Psychic Vampires who usually have spikey energy fields, dark auras and sometimes holes in their energy bodies.
Conclusion
As you can see there are many sects and philosophies of vampirism. Each group differs and has its own set of rules and regulations. Traditional Psychic Vampires, Strigoi Vii and the Vampire Community in general (online and in person) seem, for the most part, to follow what is called the Black Veil, which is a set of thirteen guidelines famous among the community (on and offline). Strigoi Vii have their own Black Veil with only five guidelines, but the message remains the same. The guidelines basically consist of being discreet, only feeding from willing participant, follow the law, no minors, and stay true to yourself, as long as it upholds the Black Veil. You can find the Black Veil in Michelle Belanger's previously mentioned book, which can be found for free at sacred-texts.org or just type in "the Black Veil" in any search engine.
